A tiler in his late thirties is in critical condition after allegedly cutting his own throat in Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The man is said to have come from Kumasi but had been working in Mankessim on a tiling contract with his apprentices.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when the victim visited a friend’s residence in Mankessim to rest. While the friend was away, the man allegedly locked himself inside the room, plugged in a tiling machine, and inflicted severe injuries to his throat.
On returning, the friend reportedly found the room locked and received no response after knocking repeatedly. Suspecting something was wrong, he forced open a window and discovered the victim lying in a pool of blood with the machine still plugged in.
With the help of neighbours, the victim was rescued through the window and rushed to the Mankessim Roman Hospital for emergency care. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he remains in critical condition receiving treatment.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear. Friends and apprentices of the victim say he had not shown any signs of distress or shared any personal challenges prior to the incident.
The case has been reported to the Mankessim Divisional Police Command, which has commenced investigations.
