Community members in the North Tongu district of the Volta Region have arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of an animal herder in Alabota, near Dorfor.

The suspect has been handed over to the police command in the area.

The victim, a Fulani cattle herder, reportedly confronted the suspect over the unjustified killing of one of his cattle.

According to Tse Jupiter Azietor, the assemblyman for the area, the suspect inflicted multiple machete wounds on the herder, ultimately leading to his death, on Wednesday, July 17.

The suspect, identified as Seledzi Dotse, allegedly split the victim’s head in two and fled with one half.

“On Wednesday morning around 11:am, I received a call from one of the elders at Alabota that a Fulani man was murdered. I enquired about the murderer, whom I know very well. The Fulani man’s son took his father’s cattle for grazing but the suspect accosted him and killed one of the cattle.

“The son reported the case to his father, he questioned the suspect why he killed his animal [but] he started inflicting cutlass wounds on his body.

“The son ran to the house to report the issue, but when they returned he [father] had killed him and taken part of the deceased’s head away.  The police came around, and searched but couldn’t find him.”
