Report sanitation offenders for GH¢200 cash reward — Accra Mayor

The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has announced a GH¢200 reward for residents who provide photographic evidence of people dumping refuse into gutters or littering public spaces.

Speaking to Citi News, the Mayor explained that the initiative is aimed at strengthening public participation in enforcing sanitation laws and keeping the capital clean.

He encouraged residents, particularly the youth, to report offenders to the Assembly, noting that anyone who submits multiple verified reports could earn additional rewards.

Michael Allotey warned that, indiscriminate waste disposal remains a major contributor to flooding in the city.

“Those who put rubbish in gutters, I am pleading with them to stop. We are also encouraging the youth and anyone in the city looking for something to do. We are paying GH¢200 if you see someone pouring rubbish into a gutter or anywhere inappropriate,”

“Once you take a picture of the person and report to the Assembly, we will pay you GH¢200. If you bring five reports, that is GH¢1,000. If you bring ten, that is GH¢2,000. It can even become a source of income for the youth, helping to monitor the city so people do not dump waste into gutters,”he said.

He added that while the initiative is not intended as formal employment, it is aimed at discouraging indiscriminate dumping and promoting cleaner communities.
