Three men have been convicted by the Swedru Circuit Court for their involvement in a violent cutlass fight that occurred at the New Station Area in Akyem Oda and later went viral on social media on 6th May 2026.
The convicts, 43-year-old George Okyere, 20-year-old Evans Adayele, and 26-year-old Joseph Nyabaah, were charged with fighting with a weapon and causing harm under Sections 203 and 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29/60).
All three pleaded guilty to the offences.
The court sentenced Evans Adayele and Joseph Nyabaah to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour. George Okyere was fined 500 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵6,000, and ordered to sign a three-year bond of good behaviour.
The court noted that the accused persons had no previous criminal records, which was taken into consideration during sentencing.
During the hearing, George Okyere told the court he was at a shop to buy Wellington boots when he was allegedly confronted by the other two men who arrived in a vehicle. He said the situation escalated after they pointed at him and a fight broke out.
He admitted his involvement in the clash, including the use of a cutlass.
The incident, which was widely circulated online, drew public attention due to the violent nature of the confrontation in a public place.
